The Pope and his mob are increasingly superflous in todays modern developed society...

Still good value in under developed countries like south america and philippines...

WTF...Mega Mass in Manila...with a projected 6 million in attendance...Will they all take the Host...???

Religious tolerance is about protecting people from persecution because of their beliefs.

A cartoon in a magazine that no one's forcing you to read is not persecution.

Scratching my head over the description of the world as being 'very secular'.

It would be a more appropriate role for her son though. And it is the 1100.

Sorry, I just can't see the Queen as head of the Austin 1000 Owners Club.

Re: The Pope standing up for religion in a very secular world.
Whereas anyone should be allowed to participate in any religion if they wish to do so these religious organisations should enjoy no greater privilege or power than any other enthusiasts group e.g. The Austin 1100 Owners Club.

It's odd that people who profess to care nothing about religion have so much to say about it.

Many people may have intentionally misrepresented what it says because it suits their dogmatic atheism.

Tell us more about this atheist dogma.

Re: The Pope standing up for religion in a very secular world.
The truth in case it's of interest to anyone.

He didn't say religion couldn't be challenged, he didn't even say it shouldn't be challenged, he said nothing about people challenging religion.

He did not suggest that violence is ever justified, in fact he said it is never justified.

He did say that if you intentionally antagonise someone, don't be surprised if they react.

He did illustrate this by using a metaphor.

Many people may have intentionally misrepresented what it says because it suits their dogmatic atheism.

Re: The Pope standing up for religion in a very secular world.
Funny that he thinks religions cannot be challenged when he is the head of one of the worst ones in recent history (last 1000 years or more).

Anyway, its just a bunch of human beings getting together to create a cult / elite where they have money, power and influence over other humans in their club which they want as many people as possible to join. The use of a pious, virtuous story book that has some decent behavioural guidance is largely incidental. Dressing up as kings in robes with crowns on their heads and creating a huge corporate style hierarchy and business organisation that has millions is hardly the "humility" that seemed to be the central tenet of most religious teachings?

Its a load of old nonsense made up by human beings 99.99999999% of it to have power and influence over others. With that power extending to murder, torture, pedophilia etc. The good moral guidance and behavioural code that can be distilled from the popular religions of the last couple of thousand years can be summarised on a beer mat. Simple stuff that does not need an organisation of thousands to market and indoctrinate the masses with. None of this has anything to do with a supernatural, invisible man watching over us :-)

Treat other human beings as equals and try very hard not to do or say anything that will harm them physically or emotionally. Treat them as if they were you. Sometimes this is called being kind. That's it isn't it?. Along with this we need a better way to distribute wealth and resources more evenly without seeing the emergence of another set of humans who can gain power and wealth and oppress the masses.

This challenge is still as difficult as ever. :-) Main issue is that 80% of the populations, maybe more have insecurities or inadequacies or plain psychological issues that are best solved by living in a community where you have to help eachother to survive and where, as a result, everyone has a role and the self worth that comes with it.

Those hippies were onto something :-)

I am told the Pope and his mates are really Zionists. Of course the Pope and the Vatican are against contraception, means the Zionists have more people to flog their gear to... Clever buggers that mossad crew are.

He also Wears a scull cap and so do his pals.. only a Zionist would wear those...

The difference being, I'll smoke when I want to smoke, whether it be on the beach in Durban or at a party in Troy. Wherever. Not some sheep pen where everyone is expected to comply with what's written in a travel brochure.
